About this program
What thisprogram is
Court can move quickly and use words that no one explains. Our job is to make the process easier to follow. We meet with you, read your paperwork with you, and explain what each step usually means.
We can go to court with you where possible, help you prepare what to say and when to say it, and stay in touch between dates. We do not judge you, and we never promise a legal outcome — the decisions belong to the judge and the people involved.
Our role and its limits
This program provides support, information, referrals, and guidance. It does not provide legal advice or legal representation.
We also cannot promise a specific result in court. What we can promise is care, patience, and plain language.
Services included
- Court preparationWe go over your documents, your court date, and what will happen in the room.
- Court accompanimentWhere possible, someone goes with you so you are not walking in alone.
- Criminal case supportOngoing help while your case is open, including keeping track of dates.
- Explanation of court processesPlain-language answers about who is who, and what each step means.
- Appearance tipsPractical things to know for the day: where to stand, when to speak, what to bring.
- Gladue writingHelp gathering your history and background for a Gladue write-up.
- Alternative Measures CircleSupport for referrals that deal with harm through a circle instead of a trial.
- Probation Reporting CentreHelp staying on track with reporting, and understanding your conditions.
You are welcome here
- You have been charged, or expect to be charged, with an offence
- You have a court date in Lillooet, Kamloops, or another BC location
- You want someone to explain what the judge, Crown, and duty counsel mean
- You would like support preparing a Gladue write-up about your history
- You are reporting to the Probation Reporting Centre and want help staying on track
